Hi! So as it’s been a while, and as I last blogged in December, I am hope you had a fabulous Christmas and want to wish you a happy, healthy and fabulous 2018! I am now back at the blog after a well needed few weeks break, and this post is part one of a new wellness edit, sharing a mixture of products for winter self care and wellbeing.

The depths of winter can be a rough time, and especially for those of us with chronic pain, so I need some winter helpers for my health. I started trialling some new products before Christmas, so I have included these along with some old faves, for skin, body and mind. As we start a new year with fresh ideals, thoughts of self care and wellbeing are usually high on our lists, so some of these products are well worth checking out.
With changing seasons, comes changes to the body and mind. Winter for me means high levels of fatigue, increases in fibro and arthritis pain, along with that (and lack of daylight), also comes low mood. Skin is also a lot drier due to extremes in temperatures sucking out the hydration. Cold outdoors from the weather and warm inside from heating, wether that be in the home, work, shop or car. Okay, lets dive in to the new year and kick off the blog with these following wellness products…
Micheline Arcier Aromatherapy | L’Art De Vivre Harmonie Dream Drops ~ £19 for 15ml
I have used Micheline Arcier body oil and bath oil blends before, but this portable little helper is a gorgeous relaxing blend, great for tough, stressed or anxious times, including during winter. You can check out other products I have used from their ranges here and here.
From their award winning Harmonie range, this little bottle of pre-blended heaven, contains oils of Chamomile, Ylang Ylang and Petitgrain. If you need a little calmness, soothing, or quietening a racing mind in order to drift off to sleep, this blend will tick the boxes. This aromatherapeutic buddy comes in a handy size bottle, ideal for keeping beside the bed, on a work desk, or in a bag for on-the-go.
Ingredients : Prunus armeniaca (Apricot Kernel) Oil, Bursera Fagaroides (Linaloewood) Oil, Citrus Aurantium (Petitgrain) Oil, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Anthemis Nobilis (Camomile) Flower Oil, Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang) Flower Oil, *Benzyl Alcohol, *Citral, *Eugenol, *Isoeugenol, *Benzyl Salicylate, *Geraniol, *Farnesol, *Linalool, *Benzyl Benzoate, *Citronellol, *Limonene* Naturally found in essential oils
I love using this when I cannot sleep from a racing mind, also during some days before and after Christmas where I have been stressed and needed calm. I simply tap a few drops on to my wrist and just behind my ears, and occasionally at night, I add a couple of drops on my décolletage to inhale before I sleep (or at least try to). Apply and breathe…deeply.
Chamomile is relaxing, Petitgrain is grounding whilst Ylang Ylang is uplifting, and the blend has a gorgeous, quite exotic and pretty aroma, that simply makes you feel good! For me, it is one of those scents that draws you back to sniff again and again, which is good, because the effects on the brain will help the release endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. All of which, help the body and mind to become calm and grounded, as breathing becomes slower, muscles start to relax and the body can let go of stress and tensions.
I definitely recommend this Micheline Arcier blend as a portable stress buster. With its gorgeous aroma, it brings feelings of calm and contentment, and in this life…most of us need a little help with slowing down!
GOPO® Joint Health Rosehip Capsules – £18.99 for 120 capsules (1 month supply)
I was approached this brand to try the 12 week GOPO® challenge, late last autumn, and started my trial in November. Before I explain my results, let me fill you in on a little info.
GOPO® Joint Health supplements are 100% natural anti-inflammatories, and are the only thoroughly tested Rosehip treatment that has gone through rigorous trials, and proven to improve joint health in the UK. This patented food supplement is a galactolipid derived from Rosa Canina (dog rose), husks and seeds powder.
Ingredients : Rose-hip, Vitamin C (sodium ascorbate) and gelatin.
Dosage ~ First time use, for 3-5 or 6 weeks : 3 tablets twice a day. Maintenance : 2 tablets twice a day.
Suitable for diabetics, contains NO shellfish, the powder is suitable for vegetarians but the plastic capsule housing is made from gelatine, although the capsule can be split and the powder sprinkled on food.
GOPO® uniqueness ~ “made using a special patented manufacturing process to ensure it contains high levels of the key component GOPO®. Long standing Scandinavian research projects, together with published scientific studies, have established that rose-hip (Rosa canina) with a high level of GOPO® may play a valuable role in the care of joints and joint tissues.” GOPO® Joint Health
Rose-hips are rich in Vitamin C, essential for bone and cartilage health, plus normal collagen formation. They also contain pectin, flavonoids, carotenoids, tannins and galactolipids (found in cell membranes)
How it works :
- It prevents the migration of white blood cells into areas of inflammation as affectively as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories).
- Inhibits nitric oxide production (exacerbates inflammation of joints)
- Switches off key genes responsible for the chemical production of enzymes + messengers that inflame and destroy joints)
- Reduce C-reactive protein (CRP) levels (key marker of joint inflammation)
- May protect cartilage from damage caused by inflammation of joints
- Has potential to reduce stresses on joints, possibly preventing tissue and cartilage degeneration
As well as Fibromyalgia, I have Osteoarthrtis, in my neck, hands and hips (well my right hip, as my left was fully replaced, almost 3 years ago). I can differentiate from the 2 types of pain, and for many years I have suffered severe pain in my neck, but only the last few years in my hands. Arthritis can be excruciating, and especially so in damp weather, winter usually being the worst time. I get cervical pain pretty all year which causes tension headaches, but in the autumn, it gets much worse and so do the headaches. It is also when my hands start to hurt badly, which I was worried about this winter, as they were unbearable the year before. I find it hard to hold or open things due to grip, and rigidity caused by dull aching pains.
I started taking GOPO® supplements early in November. After around 6-8 weeks of taking the advised dose, I actually started a notice a difference in my hands and neck. Although it has not allowed me to be totally arthritic pain-free, it has not bad as previous years, and is definitely less severe which is a great help, especially as my tension headaches are not so frequent! Winter can be the worst time for chronic pain sufferers, so to get some help with arthritis is a fab result, as I suffer enough with painful muscles and tendons from Fibromyalgia.
I also actually notice a difference if I forget to take them for a couple of days, (you know how life can a bit crazy at times..oh and there’s my stupid menopausal brain), as I start to experience a bit more pain. I can honestly say, these seem to be helping limit my Osteoarthritis pain, so I am going to invest in some more to continue the benefit.
I would certainly recommend giving these a try, but remember, they need to be used for a couple of months to notice any difference. They must also be taken religiously in order to improve the health of the joints and surrounding tissues. If in any doubt, do consult a medical practitioner, but remember these are natural and not synthetic drugs.
Rosehip is a valuable natural anti-inflammatory when used in facial oils, so I am really pleased that I took part in a trial of GOPO® supplements for joint health. A life of pain is really difficult, so anything that can help ease that, is simply fantastic!
LightStim (for Pain) ~ around £150
The LightStim device uses LED light therapy developed by NASA, and is used by many physios to help patients with their healing. It is the only home device that uses the 4 light Multi-Wave Technology™. I find this device so helpful, plus it is easy to use and portable for to take when travelling.
Helping to reduce inflammation and stiffness by increasing blood flow to the muscles and joints, it can ease arthritic pain, as well as Fibromyalgia pain, so I turn to my LightStim much more during the winter months. Find out more about it in my post here

Revive Active Beauty Complex Supplement – £49-94 for 1 month supply (28 sachets), or £134.85 (@£44.95 ea) for 3 month supply.
I am a fan of taking collagen boosting supplements, and these sachets are easy and super tasty to take, an orange drink, far more enjoyable than just swallowing a tablet.
Ingredients : Each sachet contains 7,000mg of Peptan® Marine Collagen**, 100mg Phytoceramides and 100mg Hyaluronic Acid. Plus Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Copper and Selenium.
The Beauty Complex sachets, contain a blend of hyaluronic acid, marine collagen, phytoceramides which help to hydrate and strengthen the outer layers of the skin. This helps fight the skins’ battle against cold weather and central heating in winter, which sucks out moisture causing skin to become dehydrated. Taking this as daily supplement throughout winter, will help moisture levels remain topped up so skin can function at its best, protecting it from external aggressors that cause sensitivity and irritation, which in turn cause signs of ageing.
How to use : Empty a sachet into a glass of approx 330ml of water or juice, and stir well to dissolve and drink. These are best taken in the morning on an empty stomach, but can be taken an hour after breakfast if preferred.
I used water and found the flavour of these lovely. Plus, with IBS, I can be quite sensitive to some supplements on an empty stomach, especially marine collagen, although I had no problem when taking these.
I started them in the autumn and found my hair has continued to grow reasonably quickly and healthily, and although I use good skincare, my skin has not been dry or overly sensitive throughout winter. My nails have grown quite well considering the time of year, although I have still noticed some peeling, but with chronic illness, that is not surprising.
Taking supplements such as these, I feel should be taken regularly and not as a quick fix. Even if you take a 3-4 month course, especially in winter, they can help protect skin in our ever changing environment and busy lives. Revive Active is an enjoyable supplement, suited to those who are committed to taking care of their skin health.
I hope you have enjoyed my first post of 2018 and that some of these might be of interest, they have been my go-to’s from autumn into winter. I will be bringing you part 2 of this wellness edit in the next few weeks, with some new additions for self care and wellbeing for a fresh start!
There will be some more new posts this week and I hope you like the tweaks I have made to the aesthetics of the site..there are more on the way, plus a few other changes as we go through 2018.
