Although I own a few different cleansers in different formats, sometimes it is good to switch up a change, hunt down a good newbie. Well, I recently came across a new launch from Elemis, and when I heard that this Rose balm cleanser was fabulous at skin softening, I had to divulge. Read on to find out about my experience with this new luxury, aromatherapy cleanser.
Elemis Pro-Collagen ‘Rose’ Cleansing Balm – £47-94 for 200gm at QVCUK, (£53 RRP via Elemis later in July )
British aromatherapy brand Elemis, is one I have a lot of time for, and have loved many of their products over the years. However, I am not a huge fan of their original Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, as I never really found it went that extra mile for me. Although I am a huge fan of oils and balms for skincare, as they not only feed skin cells, but provide a good slip to perform massage and improve skin health.
When I heard of the new version of the cleansing balm, I linked Rose with being caring for sensitive skins. Plus, the results given by Elemis from their tests, on 100 women in trials of the cleanser, found over 95% claimed their skin was softened after using. When your skin gets dehydrated and craves moisture like mine.. well this sounded ideal.
The packaging is feminine and aesthetically pleasing, if you love pink and roses. The product itself is a rich, sumptuous balm which melts to an oil when massaged into the skin. It can be used as a cleanser for both morning and night, and also as a treatment mask.
Cleanse : Apply a 50p size of balm and over face, neck & décolletage, massaging for about a minute. Removes all traces of makeup easily, including waterproof mascara. Wet hands and massage again, turning it into a rich cleansing milk. Rinse with face cloth/water, or perform a double cleanse.
Mask : Apply in a slightly thicker layer if preferred, work into the skin and leave on for about 20 minutes and enjoy ‘a rose garden experience’ and lay back in the bath on a Sunday! (I only left on for 10 mins being cautious). Then, add water and treat as per cleansing. Skin has a deep cleanse with the added benefit of being left softened, bright and plump.
This really does an amazing job of cleansing and leaves skin like silk! Sadly however, during my 1st week of using this, my skin started to react and became reddened each time, not during or right after use, but a couple minutes later. My skin disagreed with one or more of the ingredients, and became over-sensitive from using. So sadly for me, I have just returned my pot (the perks of shopping with QVCUK!), so may have to go back to their sensitive cleanser…which you check out here.
Ingredients include ; a blend of natural oils and waxes, including Sweet Almond oil, Shea Butter, Elderberry seed oil, Coconut oil and Mimosa oil. To my surprise, the contents of the new oils, Damask Rose wax oil and Damask Rose flower extract, were the last 2 ingredients on the list (the least amount of ingredients).
Interestingly, bang in the middle of the list, is ‘Fragrance (parfum)’, so I am left wondering what ingredient/s caused my sensitivity to flare up. Rose oil is usually an ingredient used in many a sensitive skincare product, and I was quite surprised the brand used so little of the Damask Rose in the product. As for the actual ‘fragrance’, I do not know what it actually is.
However, this really is a beautiful cleanser! It does the job incredibly well, smells gorgeous (if you love the scent of Rose), it is enjoyable to use and leaves skin clean, bright, and oh so super soft! IMO, it is difficult to find a cleanser that really delivers on leaving the skin surface so soft. An acid or granular exfoliant…yes, but not usually with simply a balm cleanser!
If you do not have sensitivities to essential oils or most products, I highly recommend you try this cleanser. Yes, it does not come cheap but can last for 6 months of cleansing morning and night (if you are not over indulgent like me or like to use as a mask). I was really sad to return this Elemis Rose balm cleanser! From providing its decadent cleansing experience, to leaving skin just so incredibly soft. It is just a shame my skin reacted to something in the product formula. Aside from that, it could just be a queen of cleansers, that many will fall in love with.
